The 2010-2011 Champions League and Europa League are already well underway, each having finished four qualifying rounds and moving on to the group stages. The defending champions, Inter Milan, don't have to enter the tournament until the group stage begins. They won the 2009-2010 edition, defeating Bayern Munich in the final. It was Inter's third Champions League title, the last having been in 1965. Internazionale defeated the 2009 champions Barcelona in the semi-finals, CSKA Moscow in the quarters, and Chelsea in the round-of-16. Bayern reached the final by beating Lyon, Manchester United, and Fiorentina. Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid took the inaugural Europa League title, defeating Fulham in the final.

Spain is the champion of the 19th World Cup, the eighth different nation to ever be champion. Spain defeated the Netherlands in the final 1-0 with the goal coming at the 116' minute. The Spaniards richly deserve their championship, they were the best team in the tournament. The 3rd place match was won by Germany once again as they beat Uruguay 3-2. Ghana came agonizingly close to being the first African team to ever reach the semi-finals, while Paraguay made it to their first quarter-final. Asian sides South Korea and Japan both beat out second-tier European sides to reach the round-of-16, while Australia and New Zealand almost did the same. Meanwhile, Brazil and Argentina both slumped out of the tournament in the quarter-finals for the second consecutive World Cup, while Italy and France—the two finalists from 2006—were both humiliated in the first round. CONCACAF sides Mexico and the United States were solid in reaching the round-of-16, but Ghana was the only African side to progress to the knockout stage. England was knocked out in the round-of-16, partially due to a refereeing decision that will go down in infamy. Slovakia and Chile both had good tournaments in reaching the last 16. Over all it was a fantastic tournament and South Africa deserves tremendous credit for making it so.
